About us
I graduated in 1990 with an honours degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, 2 years later I completed my teacher training and qualified with a post graduate teaching qualification in maths. During my teaching career of almost 30 years…
I have taught all stages and levels from S1 to Advanced Higher and worked with a diverse range of pupils. Effective learning and teaching has always been fundamental to meeting the learning needs of all my students and I have continually aspired to deliver this.
I have undertaken numerous opportunities to develop new skills, improve my knowledge and stay up to date with new developments. In 2003 I started a Masters programme with the University of Strathclyde to work towards becoming a Chartered Teacher. In 2007 I was awarded Charted Teacher status by the General Teaching Council (Scotland). This was a significant development as only around 2% of teachers were qualified as CT’s . The award recognised a number of professional attributes including a commitment to critical self-evaluation & thinking, continued professional development and enhanced & sustained teaching practice.
I am now offering a flexible approach to tutoring with a range of options, I am sure that I can provide an effective solution to meet your learning needs.
I hold a full PVG scheme membership from Disclosure Scotland, and all policies including child protection can be viewed at the bottom of this page.
SQA Course Information
The course covers skills, knowledge, and understanding in the following areas: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calclus, and reasoning skills.
The course covers skills, knowledge, and understanding in the following areas: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Numeracy, and Statistics.
It is important for students to demonstrate a high level of competency across all of these areas in order to form a solid foundation for progressing onto Higher.
Learners are assessed throughout the course in the following areas: expression & formulae, relationships, and numeracy.
There is no external SQA exam, however in order to achieve the full course award, they will need to successfully pass and Added Value Unit (AVU) administered in school.
The majority of pupils will work through levels 3 and 4 by the end of S3. The curricular framework covers mathematics and numeracy progression in the following areas: Number, money and measure, Shape, position and movement, and Information handling. Pupils will work through the experiences and outcomes for each area.

Services Offered
– This is a one hour online one to one tuition session.
– Offers an opportunity for targeted learning of areas that a student needs to focus on, with tailored examples and materials to cover essential skills and knowledge.
– Can be used for revision, consolidation, learning new material, assessment/exam preperation etc.
– This is a taster session, where students can get general help with any questions.
– This also offers an opportunity for students and parents to find out more about the services offered by AK Maths.
– Offers a consistent approach to learning a full topic, such as differentiation in Higher Maths.
– Students can choose which topics they want to cover.
– Each topic has an allocated number of teaching hours and related cost. View full information on the topics here.
– Fixed cost of £10/hour per person based on groups of 3-5 students.
– Ideal for those whose learning has been interrupted and require continuity in learning.
– Topics are taught in manageable sections.

Bookings can be arranged via phone or email. After your initial booking with us, you will receive an email with instructions for accessing the online virtual whiteboard called Miro.
During a lesson, students will be able to communicate with the tutor via phone call, and they can see the work and share their own work using the virtual whiteboard. A laptop or desktop computer is all you need.
Full instructions for the set up of the virtual whiteboard will be emailed to you after you make a booking, and we are happy to help in any aspect.
